Extract from ChatGPT
First, we need to ask ChatGPT to tell us everything it knows about you. We use two prompts to get the full picture. The first one grabs your stored memories and custom instructions. The second digs into what ChatGPT has picked up from your conversations over time.
Prompt 1: Memories and Instructions
I'm moving to a new AI assistant and I need to take everything you know about me with me.
Please give me a complete summary of:
1. All my stored memories (everything in your Memory feature about me)
2. My custom instructions (both "What would you like ChatGPT to know about you?" and "How would you like ChatGPT to respond?")
3. Any personalisation settings you're aware of
Format this as a clean, readable profile I could give to another AI. Use headings and bullet points. Don't leave anything out, even if it seems minor.
Prompt 2: Conversation Patterns
Now I need you to think beyond your stored memories. Based on our conversation history together, what else have you learned about me?
Please cover:
1. My communication style and tone preferences
2. Topics I ask about most often
3. How I like information presented (length, format, level of detail)
4. My business or work context
5. Any recurring tasks or workflows we do together
6. Pet peeves or things I've corrected you on
7. Anything else that would help a new AI assistant work well with me from day one
Again, format this as a clean profile with headings and bullet points.
1
Open ChatGPT in your browser and start a new chat.
2
Copy and paste Prompt 1 above. Let ChatGPT finish its response, then copy everything it gives you.
3
In the same chat, copy and paste Prompt 2. Copy that response too.
4
You now have everything ChatGPT knows about you. Move on to the next step to tidy it up.
Review and tidy up
Paste both responses from ChatGPT into the box below and have a read through. This is your chance to clean things up before you hand it to Claude. Remove anything outdated, irrelevant, or just plain wrong. ChatGPT doesn't always get it right.
Worth keeping
Your business name and what you do
How you like to communicate
Recurring tasks and workflows
Industry or niche context
Formatting preferences
Safe to remove
Old business names or past roles
ChatGPT-specific things (like "use DALL-E")
Anything that feels inaccurate now
One-off tasks you won't repeat
Overly generic statements

Import to Claude
Your cleaned-up profile is ready. Copy it below and bring it into Claude. You have two ways to do this.
Option A
Recommended
Go to claude.ai and log in
Click your profile picture, then Settings
Go to Capabilities, find Memory
Click "Import memory from other AI providers"
Paste your profile into the text box
Click "Add to memory"
Option B
Quick alternative
Go to claude.ai and start a new chat
Paste your profile into the chat
Add this message above it: "This is my profile from another AI assistant. Please store all of this in your memory so you can reference it in future conversations."
Send and let Claude process it
Good to know: Claude's memory builds up naturally over your conversations. This import gives it a head start, but don't worry if it doesn't feel perfect straight away. The more you use Claude, the better it gets at understanding how you work.
You're all set. Here's what comes next.
Set up Claude Projects
If you used Custom GPTs in ChatGPT, Claude has something similar called Projects. A Project is a workspace where you give Claude specific instructions and reference files for a particular area of your business.
For example, you might create a Project called "Social Media Content" with instructions about your brand voice, your audience, and the platforms you post on. Every conversation inside that Project starts with that context already loaded.
To create one: open the sidebar in Claude, click Projects, then New Project. Give it a name, add your instructions, and upload any relevant files.
What to expect in the first week
Claude has a different style to ChatGPT. It tends to be more careful, more nuanced, and sometimes more honest about what it doesn't know. That's a feature, not a bug.
Your memory will build up naturally over conversations. The import gives Claude a head start, but the real value comes as you work together.
If something feels off, just tell Claude. It learns from corrections, same as ChatGPT does.
Claude is especially strong at writing, analysis, and following detailed instructions. Give it a proper brief and it will surprise you.
You don't have to pick one or the other. Plenty of people use both ChatGPT and Claude for different tasks. Try Claude for a week and see how it feels.
That's it. You're ready to go.
Head over to claude.ai and start your first conversation. Claude already knows who you are.
